MBBS In India — Govt & Private

Government colleges, deemed and private universities, NEET cut-offs and counselling — decoded. We help you target the right seat for your score and budget.

The Reality

~20 Lakh Aspirants. ~1 Lakh Seats.

Every year, more than 20 lakh students sit for NEET-UG competing for roughly 1 lakh MBBS seats across India. Government seats are the most affordable and the most fiercely contested; private and deemed seats open up far more options, but at a higher cost.

We help you read this landscape realistically — what your score can actually fetch in All India Quota, your home-state quota, and private/management seats — so you don't waste a year chasing the wrong target.

Fee snapshot: Government MBBS can cost well under ₹1 lakh/year, while private & deemed colleges in India often range from ₹50 lakh to ₹1.5 crore for the full course. Knowing this early changes your whole strategy.

Government

  • Lowest fees
  • Strong clinical exposure
  • High demand, high cut-offs

Private

  • Many more seats
  • Lower cut-offs
  • High total cost

Qualifying Percentiles By Category

You must clear the NEET qualifying percentile even to be eligible for counselling. These are the category-wise minimums (revised by NMC/NTA each year).

CategoryQualifying PercentileNotes
General / EWS50th percentileHighest threshold; most competitive for govt seats
OBC / SC / ST40th percentileRelaxed cut-off for reserved categories
General-PwBD45th percentileFor Persons with Benchmark Disability (General)
SC / ST / OBC-PwBD40th percentileReserved category with disability
Important: qualifying the percentile makes you eligible, not admitted. Actual admission depends on your rank, category, the round, and the college type. We model all of this against your score before counselling.

How Admission Actually Happens

MBBS seats are filled through structured counselling rounds — not direct college applications. Here's the flow.

1

Qualify NEET-UG

Clear the category cut-off. Your All India Rank decides which counselling and colleges are realistic.

2

Register for Counselling

All India Quota (15% of govt seats, MCC) and State Quota (85%, state authorities) run separately. We help you register for both where eligible.

3

Choice Filling & Locking

The most important step — you rank colleges in order of preference. Smart choice-filling can be the difference between a seat and a wasted round.

4

Seat Allotment & Reporting

Seats are allotted by rank & preference across multiple rounds (including mop-up & stray). You report to the college and confirm admission.
